Abstract

The importance of establishing successful partnerships between home and early childhood education is well established in the policies of the Nordic countries. Both Finland and Sweden acknowledged requirements for strong collaboration between home and early childhood environments in their national early childhood education curriculums. One major challenge in achieving such successful partnerships, however, is the content of teacher education programs and the subsequent development of teachers’ relevant competencies during their educational path. This chapter aims to investigate national policy documents regarding parental collaboration and the curriculum contents of one Finnish and one Swedish early childhood teacher education programs regarding parental collaboration with the help of document analysis. According to the results multiple differences as well as similarities across them were found.
