Abstract
ractThe focus of this study was to assess whether regional economic reviews can be used to examine the impact of measures related to transport infrastructure development and transport pricing and regulation on businesses, consumers and public finances at the level of regional economies. According to the results, this can be done by means of regional economic models that comprehensively describe and calculate changes in interdependent chains of influence in the economic system.Direct user benefits and disadvantages of changes in the transport system indirectly result in wider economic impacts in the dynamics of interaction between different markets. These impacts are realised in chains related to accumulation, the labour market, land use and the real estate economy. These impact chains are included in regional economic models.Already with the existing capabilities, the regional economic models can be used to numerically simulate the broader impact chains of the transport system development at one time. The regional economic models examine these chains of influence in regional entities according to statistical links and behavioural modelling between them. The reviews can distinguish between regions that benefit from the measures and regions that get marginalised as a result of them, as well as the scale of the impacts as changes in employment, for example. In addition, the models can be used to assess changes in the development of the entire national economy.
